Top Gear Scoots 1000 Miles across Nam; Clarkson Crashes Vespa
It’s a rather well known fact that Jeremy Clarkson hates scooters.
Writing in his column not too long ago he said “…they should come standard with Cofins“. Then went on and on…
” As far as the minor controls are concerned, well . . . you get a horn and lights and indicators, all of which are operated by various switches and buttons on the steering wheel, but if you look down to see which one does what, a truck will hit you and you will be killed. Oh, and for some extraordinary reason, the indicators do not self-cancel, which means you will drive with one of them on permanently, which will lead following traffic to think you are turning right. It will then undertake just as you turn left, and you will be killed.” You read the full column here
So, it has been with great anticipation that we have been waiting to see the Top Gear Vietnam special which finally made it to BBC America last night.
In this special Jeremy, James, and Richard are given 15 million Dong and told to buy a set of wheels for a journey across Vietnam. They soon realized that 15 million Dong is about 1000 dollars.
So bikes it was. Jeremy had a fit, repeatedly saying “I CAN’T DO THIS!” “A 1000 MILES ON A SCOOTER ACROSS VIETNAM!!” All the while James and Richard could not wait to get started. (they love riding)
So off they went, James on a classic Honda 50 Super Cub, Richard on his Russian (Taliban Special) Minsk, and Jeremy on a Vintage Vespa Sprint (we could be wrong or it’s a Vietnamese knock off, either way Jeremy treats like trash never putting it on its stand and just dumping it where ever he stops).
This Top Gear special is by far one of the funniest I have ever seen and you really should look for it again this week to re-air. Here is a short clip towards the end of the special where Jeremy has a crash.
