Okie Riders could soon be rolling red lights legally

redlight

Ever been stuck at a red light cause you just don’t have what it takes to trip the sensors, ever thought to yourself, “What the hell am I waiting for”?

Like South Carolina, which already allows riders to “safely” run red lights, Oklahoma now has a House Bill proposing just that.

“Representative Chuck Hoskins has authored House Bill 1795, which would make it legal for motorcycle drivers to continue through an intersection even if the light is red. The only requirements would be that the driver come to a complete stop and then make sure it is safe to proceed before going through the light.”

I’ve been guilty of this here in Chicago, but I’m not sure this would be be a good fit for around here. Cab Drivers already blow stoplights enough as it is that I find myself slowing at green lights.

This Summer I’ll find myself back in Oklahoma helping the wife with some WWII research and seeing old and dear friends and family.  I hope I get to run some red lights!

  • I blogged about the red light issue a while back. My little Buddy 125 is just not heavy enough to trigger the sensors. Several times, I've been stuck at lights, hoping a car would come up behind me and trigger it.

In Idaho, where I live, the law says you can go through the red light, but you have to wait 1 full rotation of the light series first. I always seem to get stuck at the lights where each of the 4 directions goes one at a time, so that's a long wait!
  • I wanted to know more about this bill so I looked up Oklahoma House Rep Chuck Hoskins web site http://www.chuckhoskin.com and sent him and email. Hey Chuck Your INBOX IS FULL!! Guess I'll have to call him.
