[NSR] GM and the future of 1989; Does your car have a garden hose?
The year is 1989, the mullet was king, neon spandex was fashion, and was putting General Motors in the hot seat.
This same year the Pontiac Stinger was created, a $2,000,000 (over 3 in today’s $$) project by GM that may have paved the way for the SUV era to come. The list of absurd items packed into this “car” is just… I mean really, who came up with this, and why did we buy into this marketing? Just 11 years later and Nissan Xterra is car of the year.
So now 20 years later we the people are looking at BILLIONS to bail these guys out, but are we to blame too? The Pontiac Stinger says as much about us as consumers as it does about GM’s shotgun spending hoping for a hit. Let this video be a reminder to us and the auto industry, never again will we make a car from 15,000 parts all from the lowest bidder, and never again will we buy this type of BS.
