NASA moon scooter

Ah the 70’s. If you will it dude it is no dream.

Yes, this is a shot from the “Vomit Comet” an aircraft (KC-135) used by NASA to simulate zero gravity and in the case of the Apollo missions created 1/6 gravity, that which is found on the moon.

This “Lunar Scooter” was tested prior to the the completion of the Lunar Rover which we all know now was the accepted choice. However, as we can see from this Time magazine article in 1979 the big brains at M.I.T. wanted bikes.

My old man worked with NASA during this period I’ll ask him if he knows anymore about this “Lunar Scooter”.

  • My Dad LOL when I asked him about the Lunar Scooter, "...after a while we just got cocky" then he when into his favorite NASA stories, which I cherish.

"...everything was printout then, see, and there we were in a small concrete bunker overlooking our testing area for exploding bolts... soon as the test commenced the room filled with paper."
