Would they Ticket Batman? New Loop Parking

At the Secret Batman Loop Parking we finally got a parking ticket.  After it happened I looked around and found one of the “company” guys that walk around the loop giving out parking violations. That’s all they do all day long.

Anyway, I walked up and asked him if he had written the ticket, and he said very politely, “no”, and ask if he could take a look at it.  I said “sure”, and asked, “is there anything that can be done?”  He told me that it was not issued by him but that it was issued by an actual cop that probably was just driving by.  He then went on to tell me he would never ticket a scooter parked they way mine was and I believed him as many of us had been parking there for months ticket free.  He then pointed out that I should contest the ticket because the cop wrote down the wrong address.  I ask how likely was it that it would be thrown out due to that, and he replied “you’d be surprised”.

Well Life went on and with me being busy and even more the procrastinator I missed my window to contest the ticket and really deep down I didn’t feel the hassle and the time was worth saving $60.  So, I went online to pay the ticket at the City of Chicago Revenue website. There you are given a number of choices to locate and pay your ticket.  You can search by ticket number, license plate number, or your vehicles VIN number.

So I searched all three and NOTHING..No Ticket Found. So, for now I am going to just file it away and I’ll search again later.  I hope this means I don’t have to pay it. :)

Now, since the ticket I have gone back to the Batman parking spot but yesterday two of the scooters parked there had tickets. I got there after they had been issued so I didn’t get one. Today, when I pulled in to park one of the guys from the building informed me that some A-hole complained and now they would be ticketing everyday.

I was off to find a new spot. It didn’t take me long, just a few blocks away I strike the mother load; Scooter Mecca. Complete rows of scooters parked proudly along the street.  I pulled in and felt at ease as if I was amongst friends and I was.

    Where is this scooter mecca?? I'm moving to the Sears Tower for work soon...would love to have somewhere to park!
  • Sadly Scooter Mecca is no longer. It lasted most of last summer (oh the memories) while the city was redoing a portion of the sidewalk on Franklin between Adams and Monroe so no signs no meters and we took it over. Late in September they put the meters and signs back and issues everyone a ticket. We've been underground ever since.

    It was a beautiful time, one that we should fight to regain. Talk to your Alderman, tell them the Loop needs designated Scooter and Motorcycle parking.
  • Scooter mecca!! Help?! Please tell me its by union station... :}
  • John sent to you email, but be warned that there is less parking there now and the signs are back up.
