Scooter is Our Middle Name ™

Parked on sidewalk for years; Still no ticket

Adams and Wells

The owner of this scooter is a happy lucky man.  When asked if he always parks on the sidewalk on bike racks he replied, “Oh yeah man been doing it for years”

He then went on to temped fate saying, “they don’t care about me, no tickets yet.”

So, what’s the deal is this guy just lucky?  As I have witness many, many times and even heard from the traffic guys (not cops) who patrol the Loop, they don’t care about scooters and for the most part leave them alone.  Now, the beat cop is another story.  They see this and it’s a ticket fore sure unless there is a Dunkin’ Donuts across the street. (Which there is not seen in this photo)

  • yeah, lucky guy. i care way too much about my scooter to risk parking it illegally, though--i'd hate to see anyone's bike tossed onto a flatbed and hauled to the impound lot. ESPECIALLY mine!

I think this guy is lucky. Getting parking ticket in the Loop or elsewhere in the city is pretty hit or miss. While I do try to park on the street, there are times I park on the sidewalk and lock my scoot to a parking meter or some other fixed object. Most of the time (like 90%), I don't get ticketed.
