Scooter is Our Middle Name ™

NO FLIP-FLOPS!!!

Everyday, I see more and more scooter riders in Chicago, this is just awesome. Whatever your reasons for wanting or owning a scooter and riding it in the city you need to keep in mind that JUST BECAUSE it’s a scooter DOES NOT mean it is safer than say a Harley.  The street, the Taxi, That Bus, they don’t care they will hurt you just the same.  So be safe, stay alert and wear the proper gear.

The state of Illinois does not have a helmet law, they assume you as the rider are smart enough to know better without having to impose on you.  Lets face it, who among us is going to argue that with a helmet is less safe than with out a helmet. Eye protection is currently the only protection.

Anyway, what I really want to discuss is the fact that as I see more scooter riders in Chicago I also see more riders wearing Flip-Flops.  This is just asking for it.  YOUR FEET ARE THE MOST LIKELY TO BE HURT.  You have no control of your scooter in flip-flops if for some reason, any reason, you need to stop quickly and balance yourself. So please, please keep your Flip-Flops in your bag and change after your ride, or just leave them at home.

Besides Flip-Flops are so 2004.

Let us know what you think.

  • Sandals in general are hella dangerous on scooters. In fact, you're taking a huge risk if you're not wearing protective shoes: My friend Renae works for Pride of Cleveland scooters. A couple years ago, she was with the owner, Phil, delivering a scooter to a customer. She was wearing Converse All-Atars. The bike she was on malfunctioned and she lost control and dumped the bike at 40mph. Her foot was badly injured and she's now missing her 2 last toes on the foot she landed on. My friend Darren hit a construction pothole that wasn't marked, while riding wearing HIS Converse and broke his foot (it folded under him as he was going down). Please take the necessary precautions to keep yourself protected--it's for the good of everyone on the road. Thanks!

Think about what would happen to your exposed toes in an accident... I tend to wear Keen sandals. They have an amazing toe cover, thick durable sole and allow the breeze to cool your feet!
  • No One wants to see your stinky nasty feet at work, on the train, or anywhere for that matter LOL!

Flip-flops are not shoes and should not be worn to work or riding on a scooter. Please leave your flip-flops at the beach or public showers!
