Do you ride with headphones?

If you ask just about anyone if it is illegal to ride your scooter while listening to your iPod, or other MP3 player with headphones they will tell you YES. However, Look it up can you find any law anywhere specifically mentioning the use of headphones?

Most will stack in the “Distracted Driver” category but even there it is not mentioned (at least that I could find). Whatever the legality, it’s not the best of ideas, you really do need to be able to hear other vehicles, especially the emergency ones. read more

Over at Cyber Illinios (who thought up that name) they give a synapses of the dangers of distracted driving.Â Chicago as a city is one of the most enforced in the Nation when it comes to this type of Law.Â Ambulance chasers from 2005 to today have done their best to sue the city stating that signs should be posted warning drivers what’s illegal, as well as a list of clear violations but have made little to no progress.

So, let’s hear it- Do you ride with tunes?

I ride with headphones everyday. I think that after a while you can hear what is around you (or maybe it is my super ninja like hearing skills). I have not had any problems yet (save maybe my impromptu singing of "Big Poppa" at a stop light -big mexican guy crooning on scooter not a good sight). I even had a cool late night ride moment when "5:!5" came on my ipod- MODS RULE!!!!

Been known to wear my headphone i must admit. Tax Dude please post your Tunes Mod in the forum I'm sure others would like to hear how it's done.

I ride with tunes, but not with headphones. I installed an inexpensive sound system with waterproof speakers on my scoot. I plug the iPod into the system and share my lack of musical taste with the rest of the world. The added "safety feature" is other drivers and pedestrians can hear me coming. If anyone is interested in adding a sound system, feel free to let me know. I found an inexpensive, easy to install system online.
